Our History with Japan

In 2011, the call to go to Japan arose in Malaysia’s heart at a conference in Dallas, Texas. A couple of months after graduating college in 2012, we got engaged and then Malaysia returned to South Korea as a missionary to start a bible study, leading others to Christ.

It was at this time in 2012 that Lawrence went to a conference and felt a call to do missions in Japan as well. His heart was truly stirred when he heard that less than 1% of the Japanese people were professing Christians.

Our hearts burned with love for the Japanese people, and we both agreed that Japan is where God would want to do something special, which we want to be a part of!

After consulting with one of Lawrence’s spiritual mothers about Japan in 2012, she connected him with some friends of hers, James and Tracy Xavier, who had just recently moved to Japan as missionaries in early 2011.

The Xaviers served as missionaries of a local church in Japan since 2011, and from 2012 we were able to sustain communication with them, developing a deep friendship that opened up the door for us to serve in Japan!

Divine Transition

In 2015 James and Tracy Xavier stepped into roles as lead Pastors of the church that they had been serving at. In the winter of 2018, they felt led to step down from their roles as lead pastors in Japan, returning to America to serve with their home church. From this, after prayer and searching for a successor, they felt in their hearts to ask Malaysia and Lawrence to consider accepting the position as lead pastors in their place in Japan.

With joy and the peace of the Father in our hearts, we accepted the opportunity in Munakata Japan!
